My left ear has been clogged up for about 2 days now...?

And I'm scared to try and pop it because I'm getting over a cold and EVERY time I try to pop the ear it clogs up even more. It usually pops though while I'm yawning or something a few hours later, but this time it's been clogged for almost 2 days. What could be the problem and what can I do to get a solution? Thanks! :)

My left ear has been clogged up for about 2 days now...?
This is caused by the eustachian tube (the tube from the inner ear that drains fluid into the throat) becoming swollen shut. To help open it up, close yourself up in a very steamy bathroom until you feel the pressure subside. Also, drinking hot tea, as hot as you can stand, will help get the eustachian tube flowing properly again. You need to keep the eustachian tube open in order for the fluid to continue to drain properly and relieve the discomfort. Take ibuprofen every 8 hours as well as an allergy medicine such as Claritin or Benadryl for a week to 10 days. If it does not start to improve within a couple of days, it would be best to see a physician, because if the tube does not open, your ear drum could end up ripping so that the fluid can get out.

Ear candling is quite dangerous and any reputable doctor will recommend against it. If you want to take Sudafed, note that the effective ingredient, pseudoephedrine, has now been taken off the shelves and can only be purchased from the pharmacist behind the counter, if at all. The new over the counter Sudafed formula is garbage and completely ineffective.
Reply:Sometimes, these can last weeks. My dad had this happen and was prescribed some nasal meds which helped a little, but not much. I would try to not mess, with it, even though it is annoying(i get it after every layover) you could use heat expansion (blow dryer) or you might wanna try washing it out, or buying ear candles(buy em' at a health store), or just gently rubbing it with a Q-tip, or something, but don't rub hard. Thats all i can say, but i think you should go to your doctor if it lasts until Friday.
Reply:Ear candles are h\what I use, you put them in your ear and have another person light them and watch them and it absorbs the wax and dirt in your ear. it is really cool. you can find them at health stores and pharmacies. they will know more about them, but you should give them a try.

Good Luck feel better soon.
Reply:Some of us have a tendency to have a waxy buildup (ear wax) in our ears that can cause the kind of "blockage" you describe, while for many others they never experience this type of discomfort.

I'm presuming you don't have an Ear Infection and you're not experiencing any pain so, if that's the case, this method is simple, effective and has worked well for me for many years.

You need a bulb type syringe that fits comfortably in your hand..the kind that comes with some of the Ear Cleaning kits you get at the Drugstore. If you can't get the bulb by itself then you'll have to buy the kit but in time you'll find you won't need the ear drops that comes with it.

Fill a sink about half-way with warm (not hot) water...NO soap.

Fill the bulb syringe completely with the water and tilt one of your ears over so the water drains back into the sink.

Squirt about 4 or 5 times into each ear to flush it out and, hopefully, that "stuff" will come out and you'll get some relief.

CAUTION: DO NOT use Q-Tips in your ears...they leave behind some of the "threads" that will stick to any wax inside the ear that can cause problems later on...plus you take the chance of puncturing an ear drum.

CAUTION: Just squirt the 4 or 5 times ONLY so you don't do any damage to the ear drum...you only want to get the wax buildup out.

CAUTION: If you have a history of a ruptured eardrum or ear surgery, do not flush the ears unless your doctor has given permission to do so.

As time goes on, and if this works for you, you'll recognize the signs telling you when you need to flush your ears out again...for me it's about once a month.

Hope this helps.
Reply:they have these ear wax candles at the health food shops and vitamin shops and it drains all the wax out. Go get some and it should clear it up
Reply:I would suggest going to your Natural Health Food Store there and getting ear candles. You will need someone to help you with it, but it works. You may need to do 2 candles in your ear and then us a garlic ear oil. They have a really good one by herbs for kids. I would also suggest that the candles that you get be beeswax rather than paraffin because they work better. The store you go to may have beeswax with herbs and those are the absolute best. Try it....I know it will work.

Good Luck!!
Reply:Put a towel over your ear and place a warm blow dryer near your ear until it opens from the heat expansion. If your ear lights on fire it's not my problem.
Reply:Pour peroxide in it and let it bubble for about 5 minutes. Then dump it out onto a towel. You might just have wax in there. That's what the Dr. did to my ear.
Reply:Sinus problem- possible infection.

Pseudoephedrine (sudafed has it in it) will work, as will any other decongestant. That'll temporarily aid you, though it may keep you up at night.

Will lotion clog facial pores?

Okay, i keep hearing that lotion is bad for your face because it clogs your pores. i use it on my face, to releive dry skin. is this bad?

Will lotion clog facial pores?
There is nothing wrong with using moisturizer to help dry skin. Just be sure to use one that's made for your type of skin.

I've found that the Wal-Mart brand of moisturizer (the Sensitive Skin kind) works well and doesn't clog pores. =~)
Reply:you would need to use a facial quality moisturizer. I like Sense by Usana Health Sciences because they hava self preserving technology...so there are no preservatives...no extra crap and, if you mention it in the contact area, you can get the products at wholesale price completerelaxation.usana.com
Reply:Well it depends on the type of lotion if it is a really heavy lotion then probably or cream will as well but if it is a light face lotion or light lotion that has kinda a runnie feeling then no
Reply:if its not oil free then it will
Reply:Find a lotion that is a facial lotion and says "non-greasy 100% oil free". Example- oil of olay.
Reply:i dont think so but it makes your face oily!
Reply:no its just makes your skin oily which makes your face break out even worse
Reply:I reccomend Eucerin or Eucerin Cream (never clogs pores!)
Reply:Lotion in general can do that and would not recommend putting it on your face (unless you want zits!). However, there are special lotions made just for faces that won't clog your pores.

Are clog shoes suppose to be comfortable?

Are the clogs, especially the ones with the wooden bottom, suppose to be good for the feet? Wooden shoes looks so stiff to me, how does that help the feet? Does anyone have any good recommendation on shoes that keep your feet from hurting when you have to work on your feet 8 hours a day?

Light skin, uneven, clogged pores ... how can I even out my skin and get that pretty glowing fair skin?

I have pinkish undertones, freckles, and clogged pores in my T zone. I'd like to totally revamp my skin regimen, as it doesn't seem to be working!

I'm fair-to-light skinned, and I currently use Cetaphil facial cleanser in the morning and Clean and Clear pore-reducing exfoliater at night -- I use a blackhead-reducing toner after every wash and walmart-brand Oil of Olay-style "Complete Moisturizer" for sensitive skin. I suspect my moisturizer actually clogs my pores, but I'm not sure. I'm also dealing with a little oil and dryness, and my skin tone is not even. I wear Physicians' Formula "Creamy Natural" pressed power and Mineral veil, which looks pretty good, but I would rather have healthy, clear skin than covering up blemishes, blackheads, and unevenness. I haven't tried Proactive, because I bet the chemicals would be too harsh.

What is a fair-skinned, combo-skinned, blackhead-prone, sensitive skinned girl to do? Thanks in advance for all advice!

I actually got rid of my zits AND got a natural, glowing skin tone from this lotion called "Summer Glow".... it gives you a gradual, natural tan and it got rid of my zits too.

Neutrogena is supposed to be good too.
Reply:I use Garnier it is very good! you can feel it working it has a tingly sensation and helps my skin!

its in a blue bottle!

I have the face wash, toner and the mostuiriser and do that twice aday its really works.

How do you clog up a bath tub without using the proper "stopper" , I can't find a part that fits the diameter

I used toilet paper and it worked , however it didn;t last long and I could really go for a long, long bath...anyone know of any un-conventional methods to clog this tiny drain without future clogs and or leakage? I know people will have a lot of good ideas..Thanks and top answer will go to the first person that suggests something that works tonight when I "try" to take a bath....

How do you clog up a bath tub without using the proper "stopper" , I can't find a part that fits the diameter
use a good size wad of saran wrap or plastic wrap and push it into it. Empty grocery bags work also in a pinch. Go to your local hardware store to find the right size real rubber stopper. Even many walgreens carry a large yellow stopper that looks like a flower that fits most any sink or tub.

Don't forget the bubbles!!!
Reply:a wet facecloth...works everytime
Reply:I have used a plastic butter container lid before, and it works great! You know, like a "parkay" or "country crock" lid?

Start the water running, and hold the lid over the drain, once a little water builds up, press the lid aginst the drain opening-right side up. it will for a suction and will let you get that long bath.
Reply:roll up a wash cloth and stick it in a baggie.
Reply:A rubber suction cup similar to a toilet plunger only smaller.
Reply:stuff a thick bathcloth in there
Reply:A little flat piece of rubber about 3" around real thin . I have them around but don't know where. Hard ware stores might be able to help. Maybe plumbing for patching pipe.
Reply:There are silicone stopper design to fit all sizes.

You can find it at Walmart and hardware shop.
Reply:Go buy one of those flat rubber type thingy..not big ..small enough and is very flat ..you can just lay it over the drain before turning on the water..go to any hardware store and look around or ask..
Reply:Get a cork and trim it down to fit. Just be sure to run a wire or some other form of apparatus through it to pull it out!
Reply:A flat piece of plastic or rubber. You may have to hold it in place until you get a little water in the tub to hold it down. (A piece of plastic grocery bag or garbage bag??)

Wal-mart does sell a rubber cover for such use.
Reply:Any thing that will cover the hole and is somewhat flexible. A plastic drink coaster for example. Just hold it down while the tub is filling. Eventually the weight of the water will hold it in place.
Reply:According to my 2yr old daughter, toys, lots of them with the help of my wife's long hair.

Clogged toilet?

What rule of etiquette should you follow when you take a big dump at someone's house and it clogs up the toilet and overflows all over the floor?

Clogged toilet?
Oh, my God what a nightmare, short of legging it, you probably weren't the cause of the blockage - it would have happened probably to the next dumper! Suicide or a long holiday may help or a change of identity. BUT the proper way to go about it is quietly tell your host, and allow him to deal with it, as it was not your fault be brave and you won't be banned from their house! Oh, an d good luck you poor soul but hopefully everyone will have a laugh and thank god it wasn't them. Actually you should make a movie out of it. Personally, I do not like people doing that in my house, don't mind a pee, but they should do the rest before going out.
Reply:Dang that really stinks. No pun. You have no choice but to ask for help and clean it up and apologize right? What else can you do? The evidence will probably be stuck to your feet too.
Reply:Oh my, this happened to me when I first started dating my husband. I had to come out and ask him where the plunger was. He offered to come in and do it, but I refused and did it myself. Horrible, horrible experience. But we're married now. :)
Reply:You don't say what the floor is like. Someone is assumed that it was cleanable, but what if it isn't and the people have to redo their bathroom because of what you did? As was said before, clean up what you can. Let the people know so that they can properly disinfect the affected area. You apparently weren't paying attention to how much you were putting into the toilet or that could have been avoided. Only so much can be handled by a toilet so I hope you learned to more observant of what you are doing so this doesn't happen again with you.
Reply:Open the window and get rid of the stink! Then tell them that it was like that when you went in there simply to wash your hands.
Reply:Does no one have "normal" bodily functions?

Do they not know, when they "GO!"

What time, when, where and on "who?"

I find that hard to believe!

Something is wrong, if you don't know!

Besides, "Scared shitless!"

That passes as a "GO!"
Reply:First thing I'd would be to clean it up.

I then would complain about their poor plumbing...

;)
Reply:This is why I wait until I get home to do the big ones.
Reply:lol you just made my day!
Reply:Puh, pretend that I didn't do it. Say you just saw their little brother coming out and then point and laugh at him. If nothing else, just leave as soon as you realize there's no helping the situation.
Reply:jump out the window.
Reply:Oh god that's embarassing. Well if you can clean it up without the person finding out, I would do that. There might be a plunger etc. something in the bathroom. However, more likely than not you're going to have to tell the host so that it can be cleaned/fixed properly. I would talk to them privately and tell them what happened and that you would like to clean it but are unsure of where the products/plunger is. Then clean it up, apologize and laugh about it.
Reply:What do YOU think? CLEAN it up. YOU clogged it YOU CLEAN IT. Why would there be ANY etiquette other than CLEAN IT UP. You outta be slapped.

Flush twice next time (once after you dump (before you wipe) and then after you wipe. Or pinch off a big loaf halfway and flush.

Also be more conservative in the amount of paper you use.
Reply:I would act like it was clogged up already when I went in. They I would say when I tried to flush it, it started overflowing.
Reply:Send them flowers, or an apology card, and offer to pay for the damage/ or clean it up.

If someone does this at YOUR house, and they are YOUR guest, I would try to be as cool headed about it as possible.

It is humiliating for them, already, and they probably didnt MEAN to flood your bathroom, lol.

Dont say that a person is rude, if they didnt do anything to help with the mess they left. Chances are they are just mortified, and are avoiding you, out of sheer embarrassment. Remember, they didnt mean to do it, it was an accident. It happens to everyone at some point.. this time, it just HAD to be a guest in another persons home, right? Ugh.

To whomever did this: Try to make amends, and be civil.

To the homeowner: Just accept their apology, and move on.

Friends shouldnt "dump" friends over silly $hit!! LOL!!!

Double sink; clogged on disposal side?

Sink drains freely on non-disposal side. Disposal side won't drain. I replaced the disposal with a new one, but that side is still clogged. I checked and cleaned the air relief from the dishwasher, and that is open. I ran a snake into the drain, and did not find any clogs. Both the non-disposal and disposal side use the same main drain, so I can't figure out why one side drains and the other won't.

Double sink; clogged on disposal side?
Sometimes you have to run the disposal and it will then drain. They get a water seal in them and the spinning breaks the resistance.
Reply:There is probably something caught in the pipe between the disposal and the non-disposal side. Take the pipe apart and check..... running a snake thru doesn't always work. This happened to us on Thanksgiving and took about 20 minutes to disassemble and re-assemble the pipe.
Reply:Where the 2 pipes come together there is a splitter that halves the size of things that can go through there. SO you need to take of the 2 to 1 pipe and clean that out and you will be alright Also on a side note, quit putting carrots and potatoes down your disposal and it shouldn't happen again.
Reply:HINT.. they share a common drain about 8 inches down

(think about it)
Reply:If you have pvc (plastic) drain pipes, the "TEE" where the pipe from the Garbage disposal drain and the "non"G/D pipe join actually has a diverter of sorts inside it. I would remove this tee and clean it out.....

Covergirl Clean Makeup - Pore clogging?

this is a great link for looking up different ingredients used in products.

I haven't tried CG foundation yet, but have you ever tried Maybelline Pure foundation? It's just a suggestion for something to try incase the cg one isn't ok for you. I find it gentle, and it hasn't aggrivated my acne prone skin. Good luck!
Reply:you should put on some face lotion first thennn, put on the makeup so it wont damage your skin so much
Reply:I use the same thing and I never break out.
Reply:Usually a product says "non-comedogenic" on it %26amp; that means it does not clog pores. Check out the bottle I'd say.
Reply:If you wash your face daily then nothing should clog your pores. Your pores secrete oils that "ooze" toward the surface and push things out, generally when they are clogged it is from the oil they produced. You can't believe all the hype the make-up companies use in advertising. Technically what they are saying is true, cause no make-up permanently clogs pores.
Reply:It didn't give me zits, but the Crap in it BURNED my face and now I have red marks that I have to conceal, poo!

Nursing mom w/ recurrent clogged ducts. Will anything help?

I'm nursing my 7 month baby girl. I have the worst time with clogged ducts. They're usually on the right side, but not always. I'm just getting over a bout of mastitis - still on the meds, actually. I had a clog yesterday and was able to 'fix' it with a hot hot shower, manual expression and nursing. Darn if I didn't have another one in the exact same spot when I woke this morning. Ugh! I have to wear a bra at work (obviously), but I usually let them go free when I'm home. I pump at least 4 times a day, and nurse as often as possible. I take 4800 mg of lecithin every day. I've had problems with clogs since the baby was young(er), but it's been much worse over the past few months.

So - has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that really helps? I do not want to stop nursing, but I've got to find something that will help me. The pain is starting to interfere with my ability to focus on my job, and those pesky bills have to be paid... please help! Nipple covers??

Nursing mom w/ recurrent clogged ducts. Will anything help?
stay away from nipple covers!

Are you wearing an underwire bra? Go to non-underwire. Are you carrying your purse strap against that area? Hold it over your arm. Sleeping against that side? ANYTHING that is putting pressure on that area?

Just for future----get a clean washcloth really wet and fold into 4 making a square. Do not wring out. Put in a ziploc sandwich bag. Put into another ziploc sandwich bag. Microwave for about 10-20 seconds (depending on the power of your micro) and then insert into your bra right over the area. Nobody will even know it is there and you can keep it and keep re-nuking. Massage in circular motion towards the nipple before feeding.z

Good luck and feel better!
Reply:umm iono but I saw this on Nip/Tuck they put a warm cloth on her breast to help the flow of the milk ...you could try it
Reply:Does your bra have under wire? if so that could be the reason. Also make sure that your bra is fitting correctly. If it is even a little to snug it will cause issues. Head to the store and get yourself professionally measured.
Reply:Gosh, I know what you're going through, it is hard but so worth it. I had at least 2 clogged ducts w/each of my 3 kids while nursing them. Perseverance, first of all. I don't know that much about nipple covers, but I don't think that would help. Sounds like you're doing what you should, but I do know that one thing that really helped me was to take a wet wash rag (not dripping), put it in the microwave until it's hot and then massage that on the spot WHILE nursing. So, really, 2 things: wet rag warmed in the microwave and massaging WHILE nursing. I hope this helps and I really feel for you.

Preventing clogged shower drain?

Our house is only 5 months old, and I just removed a huge (and disgusting) hair and mold clog from the shower drain. The drain is in the center of the shower floor. The shower floor pan is heavily textured, so a sunction-cup type drain cover would not stick. Any ideas to help prevent these huge hair clogs? I really don't want to be cleaning this out 2-3 times every year for the next 30 years we plan to live here. Thanks!

Preventing clogged shower drain?
Stop losing hair? Seriously, you could put a drain cover with smaller holes, but it will still allow hair to get into the drain. Cleaning the clog out of the drain is going to be regular routine maintenance of your shower. The alternative is a clogged drain. If you only have to do it every 4-6 months, it is cheap insurance against plumbing problems.
Reply:Stop yanking it in the shower
Reply:You can buy stuff from the plumber that you put in your drains every month to keep them clear. I would suggest this.
Reply:Cut your hair short. It causes less clogging.

We have been in our house 29 years and it requires cleaning

(our shower) about once or twice a year. But we wear short hair cuts.

If you are on city sewer, use a drain cleaner every month or so.

If you are on a septic you need to flush a couple packets of yeast once or twice a year to keep your tank healthy.

But any long hair will be a problem.
Reply:Easy and cheap way to keep your drain clear is either go to a store and buy a drain screen and just dump it once a week or buy a bottle of toilet bowl acid and pour about a 1/4 of it down your drain every 2 weeks.

Birkenstock clog question!!?

I am going to get a pair of clogs, i was wondering, i wear size 12 shoes, do these clogs usually run bigger or small, I see their chart a size 12 would be 45, but I wonder if I should go up to a size 46? and is there a big difference between regular width and narrow? thanks for ur help

Birkenstock clog question!!?
Okay, the Birkenstock fit thing is a little complicated, you're right. I wear a european 39 but in Birks I fit a 40. Best thing to do is go to a local store and try the 45 and the 46 and see what works better.

You want the toe bar to rest under the first joint of your toes and for your heel to rest comfortably in the heel cup AT THE SAME TIME. This is one way to tell you have the right size.

The second way to tell is to take your fingers and bracket the widest part of your foot, at the base of the big toe and the base of the pinky toe, so that you know where the widest part is, and then stand up straight and let your weight fall naturally as you rest your foot in the Birk and see if the widest part of the sandal is lining up with the widest part of your foot. If it is forward of that it is too big, and if it is short of that it is too small.

The third way to tell is that all Birks have a sort of rim or edge on the toe of the sandal that makes it look like a little tray. (I know you are shopping for clogs but for the benefit of fitting you needs to see this in a sandal.) Again, stand up straight and let your weight rest naturally in the foot bed. If the ends of your toes are nudging against that rim then the sandal is too small. Most shoe companies don't fit their shoes this way but Birk is very specific about this. The edges of your toes should be well within the tray of the footbed.

Walk around in a pair for a while and see if the toe bar or heel cup are causing stress or discomfort - if so you may want to adjust the size. My most usual problem is that the toe bar is too far back and presses against the plantar of my foot, and then I know the sandal is too small. Your toes should be curling around and gripping the toe bar, and it might feel weird at first, but it should be in a good way, like a foot massage a little bit.

Generally if you have been wearing regular width shoes up till now and doing okay then probably a regular width Birk will be okay too. If you think you have unusually narrow feet then try the narrow sandal and see how it is. If it feels like the edges of the footbed are pressing against the left and right sides of your foot then the shoe is too narrow and you should go with a regular width.

Hopefully the shop attendant will know enough about Birks to help you find a good fit.

It might seem weird that if the shoe is pressing against your foot that this is a sign that it is too small, but Birk is very specific about its design that you should feel like you are standing in sand - your foot well supported but no pressure anywhere - other sneakers and shoes do hug the foot so the feel of a Birk takes a little getting used to.

I've had three pairs of Birks in the last 15 years, so I guess you could expect a pair to last 5 years or so with moderate wear.

Enjoy your Birks and I hope this helps.
Reply:they run bigger so I would not go up a size
Reply:Birkenstocks normally run big - I would recommend actually measuring your feet for them or even going to a shop to try them on. The moulded bottom means that having the wrong size is really annoying.
Reply:I'm a size 12 to 13 in regular shoes.

I wear a 47 regular width in my Birk sandals. Birkenstock uses the same footbed for their sandals as they do for clogs.

Try them on first and see what size fits best but I would go upto a 46.
Reply:I would go with the regular width. A 45 should be good enough. The sizes are pretty consistent throughout the styles. Sometimes they will tell you if a style tends to run a little small and advise you to get the next size. Birkenstocks are a great choice and it is all I ever wear. I just got a new pair yesterday.
Reply:when you go to buy a pair of birks they will measure you and fit you...it's not like going to payless shoes where you have to wait on yourself all the way up to the register....
Reply:Dude two things. first Birkenstock are ugly shoes and men don't wear clogs.
Reply:i have never heard of clogs but i have heard of crocs and if that is what you mean then go a size up width is like to see if your foot isnt smoshed inside the shoe narrow is just another word for like how your toes feel inside the croc or clog or w/e
Reply:dude that is so ggggggggggggggggggggggggay!

Clogged shower drain that filles with water when I flush the toilet.?

I have a 2nd bathroom with a stall shower in my new home. I went to clean this shower so I could start using it. Right away I noticed a huge hair clog which I removed. There was still water in the drain which I plunged and pulled up some gunk. When I flushed the drain with water it does drain, but drains slowly. Then I flushed the toilet and I noticed the water rises in the shower drain. The toilet flushes fine (other than water filling the shower drain). The sink works fine. My other bathroom on the same floor is fine - there were some hair clogs which I was able to easily plunge away. So my question is - do I try snaking the shower drain or go right to the plumber? Also, I have never snaked a drain before, any tips would be appreciated.

Clogged shower drain that filles with water when I flush the toilet.?
I would call the plumber. I wouldn't want to have to go buy a plumbers snake or store it.
Reply:Just use a big plunger to loosen it all.

Let it fill up and put the plunger on top of the shower drain and keep working at it until it gets loose and flows freely.

If you find this is not getting results use a bottle of Mr Muscle unblocker or similar to disolve it and then repeat the plunger treatment.

Edit.

I just remembered.

Dont use one of those things that pumps up and then blasts the blockage out.

I once blew a hole in some ABS pipe with one of those and then ended up with a worse problem.

I had to replace the pipe.
Reply:Call a plumber and let them snake the line out. It may require a snake all the way to the outer line.
Reply:Before useing the cleaners try stuffing or covering the overflow drain with a rag and just keep plunging. If that doest work then try the liquid plumber,i personally like drano max gel better.Give it a couple treatments of either and, see if it gets any better.Read the labels and let it sit from 15-30 mins, then flush with water.and repeat it .Usualy 2 treatments, it no results just call a plumber or have it snaked out.Don't mix with other drain chemicals.
Reply:Call the plumber have it done correctly the first time save your self the hassle and aggravation of having the backup happen on the weekend or holiday when you really need it to work and have to pay twice as much.
Reply:If you flush the toilet and it causes water to rise up in the shower drain then you have a clogged main drain. Gonnna need either a plumber or a knowledgeable handyman.

I'd try the handyman first to Rod out the main drain lines .

A plumbing outfit may want to 'over do' the job and deplete your wallet.
Reply:Wear boat shoes in the shower LOL. Nah you got alot of good advice here,l Try the liquid plumber, or the Mr.Giant whatever the other guy mentioned first but make sure its for PVC piping assuming thats what you have. If it says PVC or ABS safe your ok if the drain is white or black pipie. If that dont work save the headache, go do what you do and call the plumber. Remember Evenings, weekends, and emergencies are a plumbers delight, so call before its a real problem, it still hurts but not as bad LOL...
Reply:go get some of the liquid plumber that come in a two-section bottle (that activates when mixed). It's a gel and is for slow moving drains. You have constriction (hair/grease) in the pipe that is downstream from the shower and toilet.

When you flush, more water than can be carried away gets into the pipe and has nowhere to go but retrograde into the shower....GROSS. This is likely a nasty hair plug and the slow drain gel will eat away at this partial clog. Let it stand 1 hour (pour it into the shower, not the toilet) and then run hot water in the shower. You should see a great improvement.

Clogged toilet problems.. please, please, please help!!!?

Hey i have a issue with our toilet in the master bathroom, i think but not 100% sure that my son flushed part of the toilet paper dispenser, the spring loaded part, anyways weve been putting up with a massive clogged toilet ever sence, a little bit of toilet paper even clogs the drain, weve been plungeing like mad, ive even tried to snake the toilet a few times and i dont think the snake can grab ahold of it, if thats even what it is, i put virginsulfuric acid down the toilet and let it set like the bottle said to (stuff called liquid lighting) anyways i cant think of any other way i can do this at home, my feance even took the toilet off the floor, unbolted and everything to see if we could get out the obstruction, from the floor down the plumings fine, i think its in the "S" curve of the toilet, is there anything else i can do? We rent the last thing i want to do is replace the toilet but at this point is that my only option? ANy help plummer or not would be highly apprechiated!!!

Clogged toilet problems.. please, please, please help!!!?
You have a goose neck in the toilet. I had a similar problem with a air freashiner stuck like that I took off the toilet and empyed it and you could hear it in there but couldnt get it out. Since it was plastic I poured light fliud in there and lit it melting it to a smaller size then it fell out. Do not use gas it will explode!!
Reply:Taking the toilet out sounds like a good idea; you should be able to tell if something is stuck inside it. (It's not clear why you couldn't tell this, when the toilet was off.) Remember to use a new wax ring when the toilet is reinstalled, or there could be a leak.

But you seem to have answered your own question. If you are sure the plumbing from the floor down is OK, and if you think something is stuck inside the toilet, and you can't get it out, then the only solution is to replace the toilet, or take it to an expert, let him or her decide if there's anything inside, remove it if they can, and if so, reinstall it. (Remember that wax ring!)
Reply:You can buy a new toilet from $75 to $150 dollors. If you spend to much with plumber, it would be cheaper to buy a new one. you may check around for salvage toilets. This would save you some money.

Clog shoes?

I just bought a pair of high heel clogs today and i'm curious if your suppose to wear socks with them?

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CAMEL-TAN-CLOG-M...

They basically look like this but their black and no furr.

Clog shoes?
Ignore the fashion police--you obviously bought these because you like them and yours is the only opinion that matters. If it helps, I think they're fine too.

I would definitely wear a sock with those. Just make sure:

1. No athlethic socks.

2. Don't show too much sock--wear those shoes with full length pants, not skirts/dresses/capris.

I could be wrong on #2--you can always try it and see how it looks. I always wear clogs to work. It can be a very comfortable choice if you stand all day, especially those with wooden bottoms.

Nice shoes.
Reply:Provided that you're wearing them with long pants, socks are fine. They're warm shoes and should be work with socks. With a skirt, opt for hosiery instead for a dressier look.
Reply:NO!!!! don't wear socks. Now if its cold, and depending on what u have on (pants I hope) u can wear stockings, tights or trouser sock the color of the shoe...And whoa!!!! that is a HIGH HEEL. LOL!!!!
Reply:those are disgusting, but thats beside the point.

no you dont wear ssocks with them.

ew.

plus those are so last year.

Clogged ear. PLEASE give me some answers!?

I had pharyngitus(sp?). I'm taking Amoxicillin for it and it seems I'm getting better. Now BOTH ears get clogged from time to time and when I go to pop them, the right one pops easy, but the left one, WHEN popped clogs up even MORE! After a while, it'll eventually pop itself, but what could be the problem and what can I do about it?

Clogged ear. PLEASE give me some answers!?
If this doesn't clear up when you finish using the antibiotic, you might need to have the ear flushed. Can be done in your doc office and it is not painful.
Reply:Eww that happened to me a couple years ago, after the antibiotics were gone. The poster above me is correct, Dr can do it at his office and let me tell you, it feels soooo good. Eargasm!

After looking in my ear, he says, "hmmm..." and leaves the room. He comes back with this evil looking stainless steel syringe thingy and a metal bowl. I'm scared, but he says he's going to flush my ear out with warm water. I could not believe what came out of my ear! Gross!

I've used a nasal bulb from the pharmacy to get the same results (when I felt like it would help), but I guess it was just that one time I needed it.

I'd suggest to try it, but I don't know what's going on in your ear.

So, I am trying to find some type of shoe that is comfortable, but looks dressy when paired with dress slack type pants...I have seen some clogs, I think that's what they are that women wear and they look fine. I'm just not exactly sure they are clogs..And, where can I find some in-store that are affordable? Thank you SO much!

Vaseline doesnt clog pores...?

people always say that vaseline petroleum jelly clogs pores, u know if u put it on ur face as a moisturizer. but if that is so, then why does it say in its bottle that it is non-comedogenic (which means it doesnt clog pores)....then why do people say it does clog pores?

Vaseline doesnt clog pores...?
I dont know that it does clog pores. My mum used it for years, and she has held her age beautifully, and it never seemed to clog hers. Maybe the clogging only applies to certain skin types - ie oily skins.
Reply:It will clog the pores on your face...but not the body
Reply:since it says that it is non-comedogenic on the bottle then i guess it wouldnt clog pores. but i think that it would cuz its like soooooo greasy. u could try it on a small area on ur face to see if it breaks out at first. some people will break out, some people wont.

Good luck

Hope i helped
Reply:because the bottle always lies. i mean they might have a few supporters who dont think it clogs pores, and they might have made it ot clog pores. but for real, it does. well i dont know if it does, but always listen to rela people. the company is jsut trying their best to sell the product so they put a bunch of untruthful things on it.

Does Lotion Clog Pores?

I ALWAYS use lotion, it's a daily habit. I believe it really does make your skin softer and smoother than no lotion at all. But today I was told by a friend that her dermatologist said lotion clogs pores, because nothing is really ''absorbed'' by the skin, it's not like a sponge, it doesn't just soak it up. It can be clogged by lotion nearly as much as being clogged by makeup. Is this true? What do you think? Thanks to all. =)

Does Lotion Clog Pores?
As long as your moisturizer clearly says NON-COMODOGENIC, it won't clog your pores. Anything that doesn't have that lovely word, means it'll soak your skin and possibly cause breakouts.

Nope, makeup's still worse. No makeup is non-comodogenic, they're all awful for your skin. Ironic how they give you perfect skin yet make it worse, huh?
Reply:Avoid oil-based products such as facial lotions, wash and cosmetics. Look for products that are “non-comedogenic,” it means it will not clog your pores.
Reply:It CAN clog pores but that's depending on the moisturizer and your skin.
Reply:Well, if you have oily skin ,then yes it will clogg your pores. I have oily skin so I don't have to put any chemicals on my skin to make it soft. I guess you can get olay non-comedogenic lotion. Anything that is oil free.

Constantly clogging toilet?

I have two toilets on the second floor of my house. One sometimes drains slowly. The other (closer to the discharge) can also be slow, but it also clogs a lot. This is the one my son uses. Sometimes he clogs it with too much paper, but it also just seems to clog up for no apparent reason.

I replaced the whole toilet assembly, and it's better, but there's still a problem.

Would a partially blocked stack vent account for this? Because of the weather I haven't been able to climb up and check. And if it is the vent, and I manage to clear it, what's the best way to prevent it from happening again (presuming the vent is currently not screened off or anything). Are there stack vent covers available?

Constantly clogging toilet?
All toilets SHOULD be vented to the main stack and if your toilets on the first floor are working, then vacuum(venting) isn't the problem. It is probably a blockage between the floors. Is it iron drain pipe?If so--almost 100% pipe blockage.Covers are available for any size pipe,by the way.Run a snake down thru the main and see if it don't fix it.
Reply:TRY SWITCHING TO A CHEAPER TOILET PAPER
Reply:i don't think it is the pipe vent because the plumbing works on the other floors right? ok so what i would do is to try running a snake down the clean-out pipe. if there is one, if not you will have to pull the toilet up from the floor and run the snake down that hole in the floor. More than likely that is where the problem is. good luck
Reply:cut back on those bean and cheese burritos, man!
Reply:this can't be answered correctly without more information. Age of toilet, brand name, age of house, what is the plumbing pipe made of, and most important, how is your drain system designed.

Rebuilding tanks doesn't always work, kits are universal in regards to they will fit, it doesn't mean they will give you correct operation. The way the water is dumped into the bowl does affect toilet performance. I don't believe you have a vent problem if your other fixtures are working correctly. You could have an old toilet with a small trap which is more likely to clog. The clogging for no apparent reason is probably from the last flush that looked like it disappeared, but only ended up stuck in the toilet trap itself. The next flush reveals the clog.

If it is an old toilet, the best fix would be to update it, technology has changed alot over the years for toilets, newer ones have alot better design.

Toilet traps vary in size, look at the back of the bowl, see the snake looking curve? that's the toilet trap. A good toilet will have a 2 1/2" trap a cheap one or an older one may only be 2". Everything you flush has to go through this. Once it makes it through the toilet, it drops into either a 3" or 4" pipe. If it makes it through the toilet, chances are it will keep flowing.

But as I said this question cannot be accurately answered without more info or actually seeing it.
Reply:My toilets were doing the same thing and I finally discovered that my SEPTIC SYSTEM was FULL and too many flushes in a row without a lot of time inbetween them literally caused a backup of water in the main line to the septic tank. Solution was to repair the septic field.
Reply:Don't know about the clogging, but there are wire net covers you can put over your stack vent. I saw them at Lowe's near gutters and downspouts.
Reply:I doubt that a blocked vent would do this unless it's completely blocked. Then again, I'm not a plumber, only a home owner.

When you say you "replaced the whole toilet assembly", do you mean the mechanism in the tank, or the whole porcelain or plastic toilet itself?

If you had the toilet up off the floor so that the drain was open, did you run a drain snake down the pipe to clear any obstacles? It's possible that something that wasn't supposed to be flushed got flushed any way, and is lodged in the pipe. This might be a toy, although I know one guy who found his missing pager this way.

If you didn't take the toilet up, try it. FIRST THING - turn the water supply to the toilet off. Then flush, bail what water you can out of the bowl, disconnect the water, disconnect the bolts that hold the toilet down, and lift the whole assembly up and set it aside on a big piece of cardboard. Get a big piece - there's a wax seal underneath the toilet that will make a nasty mess on the floor otherwise.

Look in the drain for any foreign matter (toys, pagers, etc). Look inside the bottom of the toilet, too. Run a drain snake down the pipe to see if it's clear. Remove any obstructions, clean all the old wax that you can off the toilet and drain pipe, install a new wax ring, reseat the toilet, connect the bolts and water supply, turn the water on, and try it.

It's common for water valves that don't get used often to leak a bit when they're turned on or off. Put a cup or bowl under it for a day, or at least a rag. That will catch drips, and prevent a water stain on the floor.
Reply:If it is the vent, make sure it has enough length coming out of the roof, %26amp; glue a street 90 to a regular 90, glue to the vent pipe %26amp; screen the open end.

I would al so get some drain cleaner that also "widens" pipes, that should help,
Reply:You might want to try snaking the drain. You said he uses too much paper sometimes, that paper can get clogged very deep into the pipes with other items that can fall in my mistake (hair, toys etc). Snaking will yank up everything that can be causing it to clog. If that doesn't help, try the vent theory or call a plumber. I think they're on the same pipe line and somethings hung in there.

How can I clear a clogged kitchen sink?

I wann try using Liquid Plumber but The directions dont make sence.Read:

For those truly disgusting clogs reach for Professional Strength Liquid-Plumr® Gel Clog Remover. Not only is the bottle easy to hold, but it has a patented formula that removes twice the gunk it used to*. It's specially formulated to be thick and powerful so it won't dilute. It wastes no time cutting through standing water to clear the toughest clogs*.

*Improved on lab-tested partial clogs

*Based on full hair clogs in lab tests in standing water

USAGE DIRECTIONS

Pour 1/2 bottle (2 cups) slowly down the drain (32oz size) or 1/5 bottle (80oz size). For the toughest clogs, pour in entire bottle (32oz size) or 2/5 of the bottle (80oz size).

Allow it to work for 15 minutes. In cases of standing water, wait until drain is clear.

Flush with hot tap water. Repeat if necessary. Stubborn clogs may require additional treatments.

It shoud cut through standing water so why wait for it to clear? Other Ideas?

How can I clear a clogged kitchen sink?
I always try to avoid chemicals as they cause problems down the line with corroding pipes and environmental issues too.

do you have a garbage disposal? do you know what clogged it?

I found a lot of times that taking the trap apart under sink (put a bucket under it!!) and cleaning that often is enough.

If that doesn't work you can get a pressure bag that hooks up to your sink and goes in open end of pipe (where u disconnect trap) when u turn on HOT water the bag swells and seals pipe and shoots a high pressure jet of water down line building pressure against clog, sometimes takes a good ten minutes but very effective, and only costs a few dollars, can use on tubs too.

If that doesn't work, try buying/renting a snake or drain cleaning machine from your local home depot or whatever u have near u.
Reply:go 2 home depot and rent a top snake make sure u don't get that Liquid Plumber on u it well burn
Reply:I would just use a plunger first.....if it's a double sink....make sure you plug up the other side so the suction will work. It it drains slowly after that...then use Liquid Plumbr.

Not sure if the weather in your area will allow this....but if it's not too cold outside....hook up a hose and run it inside to sink. Place it down the drain or over the drain hole....use a kitchen towel around the end of hose to keep water pressure from coming back out.....have someone turn on the water to full pressure....it might force whatever is there to go down the pipe and into main sewer line. Remember again to plug up both side so water can not squirt up either of the drains.
Reply:With all due respect, I'm a skeptic and detest introducing more toxins into our environment. Without knowing at all what causes the clogs, I'd remove the "P" trap first, then check the drainage VENT plumbing for clogs. Then I might go to the end of the line, find and open the cleanout plugs and snake them.

If one is to believe that OXY Clean is a miracle, then I suppose that's one reason chemical drain cleaners sell into the Billions of dollars.

Steven Wolf

just my two "sense"
Reply:remove the trap and see if there is anything in it that might be clogging it, then stick a snake down the wall and replace trap... flush with water... if still clogged call a plumber
Reply:sometimes the easiest way to clear a clog is to pull the pee trap under the sink . clear out the area under the pipes, place pan under the pipe back off the nut to the trap , let water drain out the tail piece that goes into wall has a nut also pull this nut trap should come out check for debris in the pipe clean at another sink. shine light into pipe in wall to see if it is clogged (some times the clog is at the bend in wall. if all clear reassemble tighten. run hot water down drain . hope this helps
Reply:It will cut through the water - the LP is heavier - give it some time to 'eat' through the clog

If that doesn't work, $5 @ Ace Hardware will get you a 15 ft snake to push into the drain pipe, force the clog down into larger pipe, no problem

After that, call the plumber

just take the tripe off the bottom if the sink and clean it out. then check the pipe going in the wall run a wire in it to clean it out put back togeter and test it out with hot water
Reply:forget the drain cleaner, remove th "j bend" or "u" shape pipe under the sink. if the "u" pipe is clear, you will need a snake to clear the soil pipi going into the wall. if you don't have a snake, call a rooter service.
Reply:pour plenty of neat bleach down the plug hole and leave it soak for a few hours . failing this clean out the water trap underneath the sink
Reply:I think it means to wait to flush it with hot water until the standing water drains. Once it is gone run the hot water for a bit. Be careful with Liquid Plumber. You need good ventilation with it.

I have a miller propane furnace sp-3 the end of the pilot tube is building up with black to the point it clogs
The end of the pilot tubing should have a pilot hood.

Black is soot from lack of oxygen. Sounds like your pilot hood and orfice need to be cleaned.

Somebody that knows what there looking at should do this.

Why do we waste so much time putting presure on famous people to get hooked on drugs and pop their clogs?

From Jimi Hendrix to Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears (who are both bound to go sooner or later), we can't wait for people to snuff it and the media keep pushing for a drug related star story...

Why do we waste so much time putting presure on famous people to get hooked on drugs and pop their clogs?
I know what you meant, you meant famous people WHO get hooked on drugs, not to get hooked on drugs.

In answer I think a mixture of sympathy from some, I for one am very sympathetic to the plight of Amy and Pete Doherty, as I am a fan of both. I couldn't give a rats ar$e about Britney, and therefore I never read more than a headline about her.

The salaciousness that prompts people to buy the Sunday paper and devour the lurid details about these people, is because our own lives may be rather stable and even, we like to find out how the other half live, even if it is to see them fall.

What mass of sodium is needed to produce 108.2g of sodium oxide (Na20)?- Should be easy for you clever clogs!?

Yeah, its in the question, i'm stuck on how i'd go about answering it, any1 want to have a go?

Thanks in advance :)

What mass of sodium is needed to produce 108.2g of sodium oxide (Na20)?- Should be easy for you clever clogs!?
4Na + 02 ====%26gt; 2Na2O

92g of Sodium produces 124g of Sodium Oxide.

xg of Sodium produces 108.2g of Sodium Oxide.

92/x = 124/108.2

x = 92*108.2/124

x = 80.3

80.3 grams of Sodium is needed.
Reply:The reaction is :

4 Na + O2 ---%26gt; 2 Na2O

The first thing to do is the calculate the number of mol 108.2 g of Na2O is:

MW of Na2O = 2*23 + 16 = 62 g/mol

mol of Na2O = 108.2/62 = 1.745 mol of Na2O present.

Now looking at the reaction there needs to be twice as much sodium metal present than the amount of Na2O produced, so:

1.745*2 = mol of Na needed = 3.49 mol

now convert this amount of Na into the number of grams by multiplying by the molecular weight of Na

3.49 mol * 23 g/mol = 80.27 g of Na needed for this reaction.

My 7 year old son covers the toilet seat with toilet paper and then flushes the paper and it clogs.?

He does stand to urinate, but whenever he has to sit for a poop, he refuses to sit unless he can cover the seat with toilet paper.

What should I do?

My 7 year old son covers the toilet seat with toilet paper and then flushes the paper and it clogs.?
I have seen purpose made seat covers that you dispose of in a bin. I think some are elasticated to aid fit but I would think are more expensive.

Who taught him that the seat was dirty , or do you have to ask yourself is the seat dirty and that's why he does this. Sorry If I come over as cheeky , I'm just giving you suggestions. Hope this helps anyway . Good Luck
Reply:My daughter has a phobia with "black" toilet seats. She's almost 13 and will hold it until we find a restroom with a white toilet seat.

Weird huh? I think your other posters have a great idea. If he must have the toilet seat covered with paper. go ahead and buy some toilet seat covers. They are flushable and won't clog. Something in his brain tells him this must be done for whatever reason. You might keep an eye out for any other obsessive, compulsive behavior. He might have an issue that may need to be addressed with the Dr.
Reply:By some toilet seat covers. Sounds like he's heard someone say something that bothers him about using a bare seat. Hey, at least he's using a biodegradable substance. It could be worse!!
Reply:maybe buy him the disposeable antibacterial wet wipes and tell him to always clean the seat then sit on it and give him the child wet wipes to wipe his bottom with instead of toilet paper.
Reply:My cousin from a small age would also do this with the toilet paper, we asked him why and he simply replied because the toilet seat was cold..As he grew up he continued to do this simply out of habit..all the way until he reached his 20s...It does sound a little compulsive but it may not necessarily be about germs on the toilet seat.

Question him try to find out why he does this.
Reply:Tell him to use a rag with some pine o clean on it to wipe the seat if he's so obsessive about germs. And not to waste toilet paper. Also tell him its highlt unlikely he'll contract anything bad in your own home.

He may have a mild form of obsessive compulsive too.
Reply:The two flush system.

Have him go to the bathroom, flush, wipe, flush again.

Hopefully that helps.

Just a thought, perhaps the seat is too cold??? or is it the germs, did he tell you that much???
Reply:i think getting the toilet seat covers "like 4 public bathrooms" would be okay they won't clog the pluming they are very thin and break down fast some bulk supply stores like a SAMS club sells them. Or like they op said buy Clorox wipes tell him he can wipe the germs away BUT HE CAN'T keep putting all that paper in the toilet explain why he can't keep doing that to him.
Reply:Tell him to knock it off.
Reply:I would definitely try what the others have suggested.

If you don't have any success with toilet seat covers or wipes, see a councillor. He may be obsessive compulsive.

Good Luck.
Reply:LET HIM DO IT MAYBE HE HAS A GERM PHOBIA
Reply:use the thin toilet paper like scotts ... and get a toilet with a bigger industrial-sized discharge hole ... it makes a big difference trust me... and tell him to flush that puppy as soon as it hits the water before he wipes.
Reply:Buy thin toilet paper, Buy him toilet seat covers. Ask him to use a smaller amount. Its great hes protecting himself.

How many more witches have to be burned at the stake before christianity finally hangs up its clogs?

When did they start burning witches again? I will be a Christian forever! I will wear my clogs as Long as they make them or until the Lord calls me away.

How many more witches have to be burned at the stake before christianity finally hangs up its clogs?
Actually the number of witches burned at the stake is still significant. You hear of maybe a few hundred each year, usually in highly Christian regions of Africa.

"Witch hunts are so common in South Africa that hundreds of people die in witch-burning episodes each year. And in the Northern Province, no less that ten villages have been established, which are exclusively populated by "witches." Their lives are at risk in their home communities. This trend to persecute, kill and banish "witches" is, many fear, on the rise." from Witch-Hunts: A Thing of the Past? by Gerda Wever-Rabehl

"Modern day witch-hunts are, unfortunately, not limited to South Africa. Brutal persecution, rape and ritual killings also occur in Cameroon, Kenya, the Congo, Sierra Leone and other countries. " from Witch-Hunts: A Thing of the Past? by Gerda Wever-Rabehl

Reply:Allow me to answer that question with a question of my own:

Why do anti-Christian people often appeal to events that happened hundreds of years ago in order to engage in their Christian-bashing?

No witches have been burned in centuries.

Atheist communists, meanwhile, have slaughtered over 100 million people -- many in our own lifetimes. In some countries, they continue to do so.

Care to address that?

Up to the 1860s the Holy Bible slavery was perfectly legal here in America, but now it is illegal…!!! Common sense prevailed OVER THE BIBLE!!! Everything changes with time thanks to liberal non religious governments!!!

What is the black stuff in my heating oil tank. How do i get rid of it? It clogs the filter in time.?

Mold and such. Next time you're low on fuel, drain and flush the tank. Then order oil from a different distributor who uses a fuel stabilizer.

What is the black stuff in my heating oil tank. How do i get rid of it? It clogs the filter in time.?
The heating oil in our part of the country is red so that you can not use it in your road vehicles, they have just added a dye. The black would be from moisture in the tank that has rusted, an oxidization of the metal of the tank.
Reply:You have microbiological organsms living in the oil tank You can get rid of it by emptying it and cleaning it out with steam or very hot water. There are also chemicals you can treat it with but there expensive.

Does anyone else think that it should had been Thatcher, and not Carol Barnes, who popped their clogs today?

Good god, can you believe some of these answers.

"If you were cold in bed and hungry then it was your parents fault"

These people have obviously been brought up in a world where they have never been needy due to NO WORK.

I dont mean no work because ou dont want to work, I mean no work because that is what there is NO WORK.

Young people today are spoilt little b@astards who will want for nothing, They will never go to bed hungry and will be assured to have the latest gadget and gismo on the market.

They have no comprehension or right to speak of the dire days of thatcherism and harp on about the supposed good she did for this country.

"Went to war to preserve British soil" B0ll0cks, she went to war by sinking the Belgranno (which was of no threat to the British fleet) simply because the polls were showing she was on her way out.

"Left the country in a better state" Poppycock, the country was bankrupt, public spending cut to the bone, yes she raised the wages for the services, she had to being as she got them into a trully illegal war.

The NHS was crippled with the managerial red tape the tories introduced and tyo top it all she ater went on to offer aid and support to a chilean dictator guilty of m,*** murder.

Oh she was a great one alright, she is lower than a rattlesnakes b0ll0cks and deserves to suffer for evermore.

Does anyone else think that it should had been Thatcher, and not Carol Barnes, who popped their clogs today?
I don't wish anyone dead. I respect both.
Reply:I dislike Thatcher too very much but I do not wish her dead but I must admit that I laughed at your " popped their clogs ".
Reply:Thats not a nice thing to say is it.
Reply:No! You are a pratt asking such a stupid question!
Reply:No. Thatcher deserves all of the suffering a lingering illness can give. She inflicted it on so large part of the population. I hope that she realises that when she goes a certain international criminal living in Africa will lose his protection and will get his just reward.
Reply:Yes bring me sunshine..she killed the heart of the Northeast xx
Reply:Funny how those with no memory of those days will whine on about how great Maggie was isn't it? Maid in Cornwall is right, Maggie was a tyrant, an ignorant cold-hearted tyrant. Her most famous quote, "you turn if you want to, this lady's not for turning." Thanks for your compassion. She ruined this country. Right to Buy would have been more accurately called Right to Buy Working Class Votes. And who should be blame on the lack of Council housing in the country now? Why Maggie of course, because between her Right to Buy and restriction on Council spending, we waved goodbye to the largest part of Council housing stock in the history of the country. There were indeed a few other things she did, sure she made the miners suffer, but so it was all working people through the introduction of the Poll Tax and the destruction of the British manufacturing base. She brought the NHS to it's knees. Wonder why problems seem insurmountable in the NHS? Years of Tory underfunding. And yes she took us to war for her own sense of national pride, ie, vanity and provided refuge to her old mate Pinochet.

She dies when she dies, it is a small blessing that she has no influence whatsoever on politics in the UK currently, but I - and millions who remember what living under her rule was like - will not weep for her.
Reply:I would love to see the old b@$ch dead...but wouldn't it be better to let her live and suffer in pain like so many suffered under her right wing rule......!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I think she was the longest serving prime Minister was she not-- That in it's self speaks all languages,, can you see her tolerating the like's of Bush, yes she went to war, to protect British soil, would you rather she had not, and the Falklands had become part of Argentina?, please do not wish anybody dead. none of us are perfect, compare her to Brown or Blair, no comparison-no contest. and yes I do remember, the three day weeks, the power cuts, the strikes, Labour Government I believe.

And of course she was the one that gave the ordinary person in the street the possibility to own their own house with the right to buy scheme.
Reply:No..Thatcher was the best prime minister we have had in recent years, can you see her putting up with the migrants we have here at the moment? I cant
Reply:No, she is still a person with a family, you`re sick
Reply:That's the way the cookie crumbles...

Edit - I can understand your bitterness - my friend's Dad was a miner and he got by on jam sandwiches and no heating...
Reply:death is death when it's your time to go you go. All I can say is i've got the champaigne on ice for when that old tyrant dies and i hope it's a sloooooow drawn out painful death anything less would be a tradgedy
Reply:no,we all think it should have been you so go away and do it quietly
Reply:Carol Barnes was an excellent news reader and reporter I liked her a lot and I am very sad she died today, but I also liked Mrs Thatcher (however unpopular this may be) I certainly don't wish anyone dead especially a frail old lady.
Reply:Why wait until she dies?Bury her now!
Reply:Well apparently the freezing nights and baked beans didn't do you any harm. Then again, maybe the frost damaged your brain! What a horrible thing to say, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. As for putting Maggie Thatcher and Hitler in the same category, now I know you are a sandwich short of a picnic. You silly, silly person.
Reply:no because I am not the sort of person to wish people dead.
Reply:if you froze in bed and lived on beans, that was due to parental neglect, nothing to do with maggie thatcher. she was the best PM we have ever had in this country.

edit stephen h. dont tell me i dont know about poor. i was married to a labour voting lazy scumbag whos sole ambition was to claim dole money. we had no money but my 2 children were never cold in their beds. i managed to give them enough blankets and keep them warm without any heating. my poverty was my ex husbands fault. and no one elses. definitely not maggies. so i repeat . if any child is cold in their bed its neglect by the parents
Reply:i dont like the woman or her politics but wouldnt wish her dead, she has caused a lot of hardship in this country, including stopping school milk!
Reply:That is not very nice now is it, as much as people claim to hate Margaret Thatcher, she did a lot for the UK and I would not wish anyone dead!
Reply:hell no. Got nothing against Carol Barnes but Thatcher was one of the greatest PMs we ever had. she took some bloody tough decisions over a long time in office and we definitely emerged a stronger nation when she had finished than we were when she took over from Labour.

people are always going to go on about miners. But the fact is coal is a dirty fuel becoming more obsolete and we could import it far more cheaply that we could produce it so the whole industry was doomed to failure in this country. coal had had its time it just came to the end during her reign. on the plus side she did amazing work for the armed forces giving us massive pay rises and making army life a viable career option instead of just a job for people with nothing else to offer. my dad was on the dole a lot during my childhood (born in 75) and although i remember we werent anything but poor we always had food on the table, clothes on our backs. and the house was usually warm. the people to blame for energy crises were the unions holding the entire country to ransom on a regular basis. that tough old broad crushed them eventually.

nonetheless its a good question as its drawn some intelligent answers even though you had made your mind well and truly up before asking it. RIP Carol Barnes. by all accounts due to her daughters death she was probably glad to 'pop her clogs'
Reply:They say "the good die young" In that case the old baggage has got some years to go yet. She'll probably outlive me, just because I'm looking forward to dancing on her grave!!!!

Edit Kate, we DID freeze in our beds at night, because of hours of POWER CUTS, night after night, month after month. Nothing to do with BAD PARENTING. Thatcher was a tyrant, and was the start of the downfall of this Country, it hasn't been the same sinse, and it'll never be the same again.

As for the "right to buy" scheme, Council houses were built for peole who were unable to afford to buy, and should have been kept that way. Look at the mess the system is in these days, as there are just no council houses left to go around. Try telling the homeless that the "right to buy" scheme was a good idea!!!! But then Maggie sold EVERYTHING off privately, including the Health Service.
Reply:No one can say that. I would never wish death upon anyone.
Reply:who made you god?

thatcher the milk snatcher was an evil prime minister (she said theres no such thing as society, and because of her "every man for himself" policies society's falling to pieces) but i wouldnt wish death on her or anyone
Reply:I don't wish anyone dead, but Carol Barnes' death has saddened me more than Maggie's ever would.

You don't have to wear them with boots, that's just the name of the cut. Clogs should be fine.

It depends on what "style " you're going for. If you're dressing them up with a nice blousey thing then wear some pumps and nice accessories, a long coat...sweaters with boots, the look is up to you. Experiment, and what makes you feel good, shows in your attitude.
Reply:maybe just me, but i like the look of boot cut with flat shoes, like converse all stars [chuck taylors].

It´s chilly here-is OK to still wear opaque black hose, black skirt, and black clogs with a colorful blouse?

Even though it´s May, is it fashionable to still wear black opaque hose?

It´s chilly here-is OK to still wear opaque black hose, black skirt, and black clogs with a colorful blouse?
People, stop dissing clogs, I love them. You got me though, I also love kitten heels.... duh.

Anyway, sorting things into "today" and "yesterday" is high school style, find out what your individual style is and stick with what you look best in, (almost) no matter what the fashion is. You´ll end up buying "today" stuff anyway because that´s simply what stores stock on, but you´ll always end up choosing "your" colours, "your" cuts etc. and that´s okay.
Reply:The hose are fine, they are always classy. I wouldn't wear the clogs though. Clogs are kind of passe, but that's just my opinion. Why not wear black pants and the blouse seeing as hose don't hold in much body heat.
Reply:God, the clogs...why do people insist on wearing them?

You'd look so much better if you wore kitten heels or something.

Any photosynthesis experts - urgent help needed when testing a green leaf for starch. Any clever clogs?

Hi, I need the answers to the following for a quiz I have entered. All of the contestants are a year above me and therefore, I need some urgent help - its not fair on me!!!

Please help.

The title of this section is "Testing a green leaf for starch."

The questions I am stuck on are:

1. What result would you expect if the plant had been kept in the dark for 48 hours?

2.The ethanol removed the chlorophyll from the leaf. Why was this necessary?

3.Why does the ethanol continue to boil, even though the Bunsen burner is turned off?

Thanks to all who have attempted to answer this question. And oh, remember, the person with the best answer gets 10 points!!!

Good Luck...and Thanks

Any photosynthesis experts - urgent help needed when testing a green leaf for starch. Any clever clogs?
I think I know...so here goes

1 The plant cannot photosynthesise without light so no starch will be produced

2 Chlorophyll is the chemical .(held in chloroplasts) that reacts with light to produce starch. It's what makes green spuds green! I imagine it was removed to eliminate stored starch that would give erroneous readings

3 It has a much lower boiling point than water and will continue to boil because of stored heat in the test tube etc
Reply:1. plants would sort of, scrunch down in on themselves, making their leaves less spread open.. if there is no light to be had, why waste energy holding leaves upright, right?!

2. ethanol is the solvent, will denature the chlorophyll, allowing the chloroplasts to leak out... if left long enough, it will dissolve the chloroplast's membrane... powerful solvent! water wont do it because the chlorophyll is hydrophilic, therefore you need a hydrophobic solvent to denature with. could also use ether.

3. ethanol has a relatively low boiling point, and bunsen burner will heat it up very quickly, so it takes it WAY past it's boiling point temperature wise, so until the glass and metal screen the glassware sits on cools to below ethanol's boiling point, it will continue to boil.
Reply:1. leaves go yellow as chlorophyll not needed. you would find less starch as it needs chlorophyll, starch used to grow pplant upwards tall to reach possible light

2. leaving chlorophyll in makes it possible for some starch to be created. by removing it there is no risk of additional starch being made after putting it in dark and removing

3, confusing statement, but either the mixture being heated reached a temperature above the boiling point of ethanol, so that as it was cooling down without heat input from bunsen it was still above boiling point,. OR maybe a reaction is taking place after heating the mixture that is exothermic and releases enough energy to keep ethanol boiling .

GOOD LUCK

You are describing turbinate congestion. If it bothers you too much you can have a turbinate reduction, which may help your breathing.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It isn't a serious problem, but if you want to stop it see an ENT doctor.
